The Desert Discovery Center, located at 831 Barstow Rd., will be hosting our sixth annual Jr. Naturalist Summer Day Camp program from July 13-August 7, 2009. This program will provide hands-on outdoor experiences for children ages 7-12 that help stimulate curiosity, foster appreciation, and teach about the endless wonders of the Mojave Desert.

This summer, the Tahoe Rim Trail Association in partnership with Sierra Nevada Journeys will be offering four sessions of our three-day, two-night Youth Backcountry Camps. These camps are intended to engage high school youth in a true wilderness experience and a service learning project on the Tahoe Rim Trail. While at camp, students can expect to learn about wilderness education, trail operations and maintenance, survival skills, and Leave No Trace outdoor ethics, all while camping in the backcountry in a life-changing outdoor program.

Participating schools will receive all training and curriculum resources at no cost. The grant will pay all travel costs to workshops, as well as pay for substitutes for up to 10 release days for each participating teacher (to attend workshops and receive coaching.
