On April 10 & 17 of 2010 MEEC will host the 5th Annual Youth Environmental Leadership Conference (YELC). YELC exists to raise students’ awareness with regards to environmental issues through a hands-on learning method, while encouraging students to put their knowledge into action. YELC’s 2010 theme is “Fight Environmental Apathy!” We want students to realize that their time to make a difference and take action is now. This year, YELC will encompass a broader outlook by incorporating a humanitarian aspect into the conference. YELC is completely FREE to students. However, this year we are asking each attendee to make a voluntary, five-dollar ($5), donation which will be used to purchase LifeStraws for children that have no access to clean drinking water. LifeStraw is a portable water filter that effectively removes 99.999% of waterborne bacteria and viruses. Every $5 donated will purchase one LifeStraw for a child without clean drinking water.
